Double delight for Prabhu Deva

Choreographer-turned-director Prabhu Deva is a happy man these days. His maiden directorial venture in Tamil, Pokkiri, starring Vijay and Asin has been declared a major hit.

It is said that the dancing sensation of Tamil cinema will be doing a Bollywood movie for noted producer Boney Kapoor. Meanwhile, the big news is that Prabhu Deva has been assigned to direct a movie featuring Chiranjeevi, in Tollywood.

Prabhu Deva will direct Shankardada Zindabad, a sequel to Chiranjeevi’s Shankardada MBBS. The shooting for the movie would begin this February.

Buzz is that Prabhu Deva has been paid a huge sum to direct the movie.

Asin in dual roles

If Kamal Haasan is playing ten different roles in Dasavatharam, Asin is not far behind in the movie. The Malluwood girl, who is playing the lead, is donning a dual role in the movie. If rumours are anything to go by, Asin plays two roles in the movie.

Sources close to director K S Ravikumar say that one Asin is paired with Kamal Haasan, while the other plays a negative role.

Dasavatharam, one of the big-budgeted movies in Tamil cinema in the recent times, is produced by Oscar Ravichandran, with musical score by Himesh Reshmaiyya.

A major portion of the movie has been completed and plans are on to release the film by July.

Host of releases this February

February brings with it a host of movies ready to hit the screens. With Valentine’s Day around (14 February) and annual exams scheduled to begin this March followed by Cricket World Cup, the producers and directors are planning to come fast with their releases. This week-end, Vijaya T Rajendhar’s Veerasaami, Sathyaraj starrer Adavadi and Jeeva’s Pori will be released.

Veerasaami, produced, directed and enacted by TR himself features Mumtaz opposite him. Vijaya T Rajendhar says that it would be a commercial entertainer, sure to appease the youngsters.

Sathyaraj’s Adavadi is ready for release too. It features Sathyaraj and Radha in lead roles and is directed by Bharath Hanna.

Jeeva’s long-pending Pori, touted as one of the best commercial entertainers, will grace theatres this week-end. Jeeva riding high after successful outings in Ram, Dishoom and E, has emerged a saleable actor. Pooja plays his heroine.

Also ready for release is the Jayam Ravi and Bhavana starrer Deepavali, produced by director Lingusamy for Thirupathi Brothers. This film, directed by Ezhil, is touted to be a commercial potboiler with all the right ingredients in just the right proportions.

Further lined up for release this month are a few movies including Sathyaraj’s Periyar, his son Sibiraj’s Lee, cinematographer-director Jeeva’s Unnale Unnale, director Gowtham’s Pachai Kili Muthucharam, Prakash Raj’s home production Mozhi with Prithviraj, Jyothika, Prakash Raj and Swarnamalya in prominent roles, and a few small budget movies.

Periyar, which chronicles the life of the great revolutionary leader, features Sathyaraj in the title role and is directed by Gnanarajasekaran. Lee, produced by Sathyaraj, features Sibiraj and Nila in prominent roles and it is directed by Kokki fame Prabhu Solomon.

Watch out for Gowtham’s Pachai Kili Muthucharam. It is a thriller featuring Sarath Kumar, Jyothika, debutant Andrea and the popular model Milind Soman.

With Valentine’s Day round the corner, Jeeva is planning the release of his youthful entertainer Unnale Unnale. It features newcomer Vinay, Kajol’s sister Tanisha, Sadha and Raju Sundaram. Songs by Harris Jeyaraj has already caught the attention of the masses.

A crowded schedule awaits this February. Let’s wait and watch who wins the race!

Rajini Vs Dhanush on 14 April? **HOT**

Will it be a clash between the father-in-law and son-in-law this April at the box office? This is the million dollar question doing rounds in Kollywood for now.

Rajinikanth’s much awaited Sivaji, directed by Shankar, and his son-in-law Dhanush’s Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram, are expected to release simultaneously on 14 April.

Sivaji, produced by AVM, has been hogging all the media headlines since the day it went to floors. Being made in a mega budget, the movie features Shreya, Suman, and Vivek among others in the cast, with A R Rahman scoring music.

Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram starring Dhanush and Meera Jasmine, directed by Suresh Krishna, is a remake of the Kannada hit Jogi. The shooting for both the movies would come to an end on 4 February and the post production works would commence soon after.

Sources in the industry say that both the movies are getting ready for release on Tamil New Year’s day. However, the producers of the movies are tight-lipped on the news and declined to confirm their release.
